About Me

I love wild places, exploring and the mountain environment.

I've lived in the Lake District for 17 years where I developed a taste for fell running.  I enjoy the freedom of movement as I do in easy mountaineering and its this freedom to move lightly and efficiently in harsh terrain that I'm hoping to experience on my Alps traverse.

I'm a member of the Alpine Club, having spent several summer holidays climbing in Austria, France, Italy and Switzerland, whilst I've also trekked in China and twice climbed in Peru.

But its in pushing myself to my limits in ultra distance running that I've experienced the deepest satisfaction, especially in winter.  I'm the only person to have completed all three of the Ramsay, Bob Graham and Paddy Buckley long distance rounds in the winter, and have also dome several unrepeated 24+ rounds in the Scottish Highlands, Lake District and Wales (see my Long Distance Challenges blog.

I like to record my feelings and what I see on my mountain journeys.  Mountain Photo Selection

There's something special about a journey.  I think I'm a bit of a nomad at heart.  This will be by the longest journey I've attempted.  I'm looking forward to it!
